Daramkhola Hydropower Begins Commercial Electricity Generation in Baglung

Baglung — After years of delay and multiple setbacks, the Daramkhola Hydropower Project has finally begun commercial electricity generation. Although the project was originally approved 17 years ago, construction formally resumed only in 2077 BS, and commercial production started on Sunday.

Operated by Daramkhola Hydro Energy Limited, the 9.6-megawatt project was connected to the national grid on Ashoj 30. The project was initially assigned to Gorkha Hydropower Company, but after the company failed to move forward, a new company was formed to resume and complete the construction.

The dam has been built at Kandevas in Galkot Municipality-8, and the powerhouse is located about 4.5 kilometers west at Manevapata. According to engineer Mithilesh Chaudhary, the plant is currently generating 6.6 MW due to low water flow in the winter season, although the full capacity of 9.6 MW can be produced during the monsoon.
