Internal Revenue Office Issues Notice to Industrialist Motilal Dugad, 101 Firms for Tax Evasion

The Internal Revenue Office in Biratnagar has issued a public notice urging tax defaulters, including industrialist and former MP Motilal Dugad, to settle their dues. Dugad, a former special economic advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and a member of the CPN (UML), is among those named.

On February 20, 2025, the office released a 15-day notice listing 101 business firms and companies. The list includes Dugad’s Asia Chemical Company Pvt. Ltd. (Biratnagar-14), Asian Chem Pvt. Ltd. (Biratnagar-17), and Harrison Palace Pvt. Ltd. (Biratnagar-2). Oli had appointed Dugad as his special economic advisor in 2020, though he has not held any official role in Oli’s latest tenure.

Similarly, Bhumi Construction and Bhumi Infrastructure have also failed to pay taxes. Abhinash Bohara, a central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, has not filed income tax or value-added tax (VAT) for two years through his Bhumi Construction Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, businessman Pawan Kumar Rathi’s Sunrise Paper Mills and Hansraj Jain’s Arihant Company, along with 21 other firms, have been flagged for non-payment of income tax and VAT.

The Internal Revenue Office has pressed these companies to clear their outstanding taxes.
