Nepal Telecom Reports Decline in Revenue and Profit in Q1 of FY 2082/83

Nepal Telecom has published its first-quarter financial report for fiscal year 2082/83, revealing a slight drop in operating revenue and a notable decline in total income and profit.

According to the report, the company posted an operating revenue of NPR 8.67 billion in the first quarter, which is NPR 671,000 (0.01%) lower than the NPR 8.68 billion recorded in the same period last year.

Significant Drop in Total Income

Up to the end of the first quarter, Nepal Telecom’s total income stood at:

  • This year: NPR 9.47 billion

  • Last year: NPR 10.06 billion

This shows a decline of NPR 592.6 million compared to the previous fiscal year.

Improvement in Expense Control

The company’s expenditure—including interest, tax, depreciation, and other costs—fell to NPR 4.75 billion, marking a 12.29% decrease compared to the same period last year. This indicates improved efficiency in controlling operational expenses.

Profit Before Tax Declines

Nepal Telecom recorded a profit before tax of NPR 2.88 billion in the first quarter.
In the corresponding period last year, the profit before tax was NPR 3.55 billion.

This means the company’s profit before tax has decreased by NPR 671.5 million.

The first quarter of FY 2082/83 shows that Nepal Telecom experienced slight pressure on its operating revenue and a significant drop in total income and profit. However, the decline in expenses reflects improvement in operational cost management. The company is optimistic that revenue and profitability may improve in the coming quarters through service expansion, digital transformation, and new technology adoption.
