NEPSE to Remain Closed on the Occasion of Chhath Festival

Kathmandu — The Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday on Monday, Kartik 10 (October 28, 2025), to mark the auspicious occasion of Chhath Parva. Consequently, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) will remain closed for trading on that day. Market operations will resume on Tuesday, Kartik 11 (October 29, 2025), at 11:00 AM.

Chhath Parva is one of Nepal’s most significant festivals, celebrated mainly in the Terai region but observed nationwide with great devotion. The festival highlights spiritual purity, self-discipline, and reverence toward the Sun God (Surya), considered the source of life and energy.

Traditionally, the four-day festival begins with rituals of cleaning and fasting, followed by the preparation of offerings, and culminates with prayers and rituals performed on riverbanks during sunset and sunrise. Women devotees, in particular, observe strict fasting and perform rituals seeking blessings for family well-being and prosperity.

During this period, thousands of devotees gather along rivers and ponds across the country, creating a spiritually charged and culturally vibrant atmosphere. NEPSE has advised investors to plan their trading activities accordingly, as the market will remain closed during the public holiday.
