Supermai Hydropower Halts Power Generation After Flood and Landslide Damage in Ilam

Supermai Hydropower Limited (SMH) has temporarily suspended electricity generation from its 7.8-megawatt Supermai Hydropower Project after continuous rainfall, flooding, and landslides in the Mai River area caused significant damage to project infrastructure.

According to the company, the heavy rainfall on Ashwin 18, 2082 (October 4, 2025) triggered floods and landslides that severely affected the project site. As a result, power generation was completely shut down around 10:45 PM on the same night.

The company stated that repair and restoration works are currently underway and that teams have been mobilized to assess and fix the damage. Supermai Hydropower Limited expressed its commitment to resuming power generation as soon as possible, assuring that it will notify relevant authorities and stakeholders once the plant is back in operation.

Industry observers note that the severe weather has also impacted several other hydropower projects in the Ilam region, and restoration efforts may take additional time due to ongoing rainfall and difficult terrain.
