Total Foreign Exchange Reserves Increase by 23.1%

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, the total foreign exchange reserves at the end of the fiscal year 2081/82 stood at NPR 20.41 trillion, which saw a 23.1% increase, reaching NPR 25.13 trillion by the end of Baishakh 2082.
In terms of US dollars, the foreign exchange reserves in Baishakh 2082 increased by 20.5%, reaching USD 18.4 billion, up from USD 15.27 billion at the end of Asar 2081.
The foreign exchange reserves held by Nepal Rastra Bank amounted to NPR 1.85 trillion at the end of Asar 2081, which grew by 19.6%, reaching NPR 2.21 trillion by Baishakh 2082. The reserves held by banks and financial institutions (excluding Nepal Rastra Bank) increased by 56.8%, rising from NPR 192.55 billion to NPR 301.83 billion during the same period.
As of Baishakh 2082, the share of Indian currency in total foreign exchange reserves accounted for 21.2%. Based on the country's imports, Nepal Rastra Bank has stated that the foreign exchange reserves with the banking sector are enough to cover 17.4 months of goods imports and 14.6 months of both goods and services imports.
The ratios of foreign exchange reserves to GDP, total imports, and broad money supply at the end of Baishakh 2082 were 41.1%, 121.4%, and 33.8%, respectively. In comparison, these ratios were 35.8%, 108.6%, and 29.3% at the end of Asar 2081.
