What is a Breakout?
A breakout happens when stock price moves above resistance or below support with strong conviction (volume). True breakouts lead to sustained moves, while false breakouts trap traders. The key is confirmation through volume and follow-through.
3 Ways to Find NEPSE Breakout Stocks
1. Bollinger Band Squeeze
When Bollinger Bands narrow significantly (low bandwidth), it signals decreasing volatility and an upcoming explosive move. Current BB squeeze stocks: NICGF (bandwidth: 0.031, score: 61.7), PBD88 (bandwidth: 0.037, score: 59.3), SBID83 (bandwidth: 0.024, score: 41.8). When these bands expand, expect 5-15% moves.
2. Consolidation + Volume Spike
Stocks trading in tight ranges that suddenly see volume surge are about to break out. Look for: Consolidation of 5+ days AND volume ratio above 2x. Current candidates with unusual volume: TAMOR (vol: 5.5x), SHPC (vol: 3.7x), FMDBL (vol: 4.4x).
3. Price Near 52-Week High
Stocks within 5% of their 52-week high often break out to new highs. Check dist_from_52w_high: stocks with values between -5% and 0% are near breakout territory. MANUFACTURE index and SHIVM are closest to their 52-week highs.
Confirming Valid Breakouts
A valid breakout requires: (1) Close above resistance (not just wick), (2) Volume 1.5x or higher than average, (3) RSI above 50 but below 80, (4) ADX above 25 showing strong trend. Without these confirmations, treat the move as a false breakout.
