BIS BIS ( Bureau of Indian Standards ) Obstruction Causes Problems in Cement Exports

Cement exports from Nepal have declined by 20.37% in the current fiscal year 2081/082 (up to the end of Magh) compared to the same period last year. According to the Customs Department, exports this year totaled 11.53 lakh tons worth NPR 1.64 billion, down from 21.47 lakh tons worth NPR 2.06 billion last year. The Nepal Cement Manufacturers' Association President, Raghunandan Maru, stated that exports to India have been hampered as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has halted the issuance and renewal of quality certificates. He emphasized that Nepali cement is not of inferior quality, but the certification delays by India have caused issues. During this period, Nepal imported cement and clinker worth NPR 150.3 million from India.
