Breakthrough Achieved in Bhote Koshi-1 Hydropower Project Tunnel

The Bhote Koshi-1 Hydropower Project, located in Sindhupalchok, has successfully completed the breakthrough of its headrace tunnel. The 44 MW project features a 2.638-kilometer long water tunnel with both a height and width (circular diameter) of 5.2 meters.
The tunnel construction, which began in Falgun 2080 (Feb/March 2024), has been carried out by Geology Infrastructure Company under the investment of promoter Electro Power Company Limited along with the private sector. According to the company, finishing works on the tunnel will take around 6 to 8 months.
The project’s dam is being built at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3 and 4, while the powerhouse is under construction at Chaku, Ward 5 of the same municipality.
With a total estimated cost of NPR 9.56 billion, the project is being developed entirely with Nepali investment. The company aims to start producing 44 MW of electricity by the coming Falgun, and the generated power will be connected to the national transmission line within the next seven months.
