Kathmandu – The government has extended the tax payment deadline by one month. According to Madan Dahal, Director General of the Inland Revenue Department, businesses that were required to pay taxes for the month of Shrawan by Bhadra 25 will now have an additional month to make the payment.
“The decision to extend the tax deadline by one month has already been made, and an official notice will soon be published in the Nepal Gazette,” Dahal stated.
As per existing law, Value Added Tax (VAT), excise duty, and other taxes must be paid to the respective tax office by the 25th of every month. However, due to the Gen-Z movement and recent political turmoil, industrialists and entrepreneurs were unable to clear their dues on time and had requested an extension.
During a meeting with the private sector on Tuesday afternoon, Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal assured that the deadline would be extended. He also announced that a special fund will be established to support the reconstruction of public and private properties damaged during the protests.
