Government to Establish National Digital Innovation Center Focused on AI and Blockchain

The Government of Nepal has announced plans to establish a National Digital Innovation Center focused on promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain technology, Digital Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity. This initiative is part of the Economic Reform Implementation Plan 2082, developed in line with the recommendations of the High-Level Economic Reform Commission 2081, chaired by former Finance Secretary Rameshore Khanal.
Center to Be Established Within One Year
As per the plan, the innovation center will be established within one year and is expected to serve as a strategic hub to drive digital transformation and technological innovation in the country.
Collaborative Initiative with Academia and Industry
The center will be set up in collaboration with key academic and private sector institutions, including:
Institute of Engineering (IOE)
Kathmandu University
Private Information Technology (IT) companies
The center will focus on four primary domains:
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Blockchain Technology
Digital Infrastructure Development
Cybersecurity Promotion
Roles of Government Ministries
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology will be the lead implementing agency for the project.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology will be responsible for monitoring and facilitating the implementation process.
This government-led initiative aims to foster innovation, promote tech-based research, empower youth, and lay the foundation for a robust digital economy. By embracing emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, Nepal is positioning itself to be part of the global digital revolution through a dedicated national innovation ecosystem.
