Laxmi Sunrise Bank Limited (LSL) has published its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2081/82, showing a sharp rise in net profit despite a decline in net interest income. The improvement is mainly attributed to a significant reduction in impairment charges, which boosted both operating and net profits.
Strong Profit Growth Despite Lower Interest Income
As of Ashad-end 2082, the bank posted a net profit of NPR 4.12 billion, up 40.97% from NPR 2.92 billion in the same period last year. This surge came even as net interest income dropped by 7.99% to NPR 11.38 billion from NPR 12.36 billion. The decline in interest income was offset by lower provisioning costs, with impairment charges falling from NPR 3.59 billion in FY 2080/81 to NPR 1.18 billion this year — a 67% decrease.
Fee Income and Operational Gains
Net fee and commission income rose by 10.05% to NPR 2.19 billion, contributing positively to the bank’s revenue mix. Total operating income saw a slight dip of 1.54% to NPR 14.68 billion. However, with lower impairment expenses, operating profit jumped 38.55% to NPR 6.10 billion from NPR 4.40 billion last year.
Earnings Per Share and Distributable Profit
Earnings per share (EPS) climbed by NPR 4.91 to NPR 16.91, reflecting the profit growth. Distributable profit reached NPR 3.01 billion, up from NPR 1.24 billion, while distributable EPS more than doubled from NPR 5.36 to NPR 12.34.
Balance Sheet and Capital Position
The bank’s paid-up capital rose 5% to NPR 24.35 billion, while reserves and surplus increased by 21.82% to NPR 21.09 billion, strengthening its capital base. Customer deposits grew by 11.59% to NPR 367.05 billion, and loans and advances rose by 11.17% to NPR 275.04 billion.
Valuation and Financial Ratios
Net worth per share improved to NPR 186.63, and the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stood at 14.12, indicating a moderate market valuation. The capital fund to risk-weighted assets ratio was slightly lower at 12.73%, while the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio was 4.25%, suggesting a need for continued focus on credit quality. The bank’s base rate dropped from 10.75% to 6.50%, which could make lending more competitive, while the interest rate spread narrowed from 4.42% to 3.51%.
Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s FY 2081/82 results highlight a profit surge largely driven by reduced provisioning costs rather than core interest income growth. The decline in net interest income signals margin pressure, but the rise in fee-based income and strong cost control in loan loss provisions have compensated effectively. The bank’s expanding deposit base, stable loan growth, and improved distributable profit position strengthen its outlook, though sustaining profitability will depend on managing interest margins and maintaining asset quality in a competitive lending environment.
