Nepal Rastra Bank Issues NPR 10 Billion Bond, Bidding Held Today

Nepal Rastra Bank is issuing NPR 10 billion worth of ‘Nepal Rastra Bank Bond 2083 ‘Cha’’ today, Thursday, January 8, 2026 (Poush 24, 2082). The bond, with a maturity period of one year, is being issued by the Monetary Management Department of the central bank. Licensed Class ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ banks and financial institutions are eligible to participate in the bidding process through the online bidding system until 2:00 PM today. The interest rate will be determined through competitive bidding, and interest will be paid on a semi-annual basis. The principal amount will be repaid on Poush 24, 2083. Institutions can bid a minimum of NPR 50 million, up to the total issue amount in multiples of NPR 50 million. The bond can be used as collateral with Nepal Rastra Bank or other financial institutions, and the investment will be counted toward Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) and Net Liquid Assets, though it will not qualify for Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR). If an institution fails to maintain sufficient funds in its account on the issuance date after bid approval, the approved amount will be canceled, a 2.50 percent penalty will be imposed, and the institution will be barred from participating in future bids for six months.
