Over 40,000 Tourists Visit Mustang in Just 10 Days of Kartik

More than 40,000 tourists have visited Mustang in the first 10 days of the Nepali month Kartik, according to the District Police Office, Mustang. Between Kartik 1 and Kartik 10, a total of 37,146 domestic tourists and 3,732 foreign tourists entered the district via the Beni–Jomsom Highway.

During the same period, around 11,808 vehicles, including buses, jeeps, cars, vans, and motorcycles, entered Mustang. The surge in tourist arrivals coincides with the Tihar and Chhath festival holidays, drawing both religious pilgrims and adventure travelers from across the country.

However, the travel experience of many tourists — including 4,598 visitors who entered Mustang on Kartik 10 via Myagdi — turned difficult due to heavy snowfall around the Muktinath region. Continuous rain and snow since Monday night disrupted movement along the Kagbeni–Muktinath road section and the pedestrian trail from Muktinath bus park to the temple.

The snowfall has caused a sharp drop in temperature, freezing the Muktinath holy ponds and 108 spouts, making religious rituals and bathing difficult for pilgrims.

As per official records, from Shrawan to Kartik 10 of the current fiscal year, a total of 159,467 tourists have entered Mustang through the Beni–Jomsom road, reflecting a strong revival of tourism activities in the region.
