The number of individuals unable to repay loans taken from banks and financial institutions has been increasing every year. According to the Credit Information Center, more than 105,600 borrowers have been blacklisted in the past six and a half years. This figure spans from the fiscal year 2075 (2018/19) to Falgun 25, 2081 (March 9, 2025). A significant number of people have ended up on the blacklist due to their inability to pay the principal and interest on their loans.
Over this period, the number of blacklisted borrowers has shown a steady rise. In 2075, 1,300 borrowers were blacklisted, which increased to 3,000 in 2076. By 2077, this number crossed 3,200. Particularly in recent years, this issue has become increasingly severe, highlighting a growing financial concern.
In the fiscal year 2078, 7,900 borrowers were blacklisted due to their failure to repay loans. This figure turned even more alarming in 2079, with over 19,000 borrowers added to the blacklist. In 2080, the number surged to 33,200. From Baisakh to Falgun 25 of 2081 alone, 37,500 borrowers have already been blacklisted, indicating that the number is likely to grow further this year.
Banks and financial institutions recommend borrowers who fail to repay their loans on time to the Credit Information Center, which then adds them to the blacklist. Recently, the number of individuals unable to settle their loan principal and interest has been rising rapidly.
