Hong Kong Visa for Nepali Workers in Korea – Online Application and Processing Time

Hong Kong Visa for Nepali Workers in Korea – Online Application and Processing Time

Nepali citizens currently working or residing in South Korea who wish to visit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for tourism, business, or transit must apply for a Visit Visa or Entry Permit before traveling. Even if you are legally living and working in Korea, Nepali passport holders are not eligible for visa-free entry to Hong Kong, as Nepal is not included in Hong Kong’s visa waiver list. Therefore, all Nepali workers in Korea must follow the standard visa procedure of the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) before traveling.

According to the Immigration Department’s official guidelines, an application for a Hong Kong visit or transit visa is approved only if the applicant’s bona fides (genuineness of purpose) are not in doubt, they possess adequate financial resources to cover their stay, and they hold a confirmed return or onward air ticket. The applicant should also have a clean record, a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, and should not intend to engage in employment while in Hong Kong.

The application can be made entirely online through the official ImmD portal, which allows users to upload all documents digitally. Required documents include:

  • Valid Nepali passport (minimum six months’ validity)

  • Passport-size recent photograph

  • Completed visa application form ID 1003A

  • Proof of residence or employment in Korea (such as Alien Registration Card or EPS permit)

  • Bank statement or financial certificate (showing sufficient funds for stay)

  • Round-trip flight ticket or transit booking proof

  • Hotel reservation or accommodation confirmation in Hong Kong

  • Invitation letter (if visiting friends, family, or business contacts)

All scanned documents must be in JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG, or TIF format, and the maximum file size per document must not exceed 5 MB. Once submitted, applicants usually receive an acknowledgment email within seven working days.

The processing time for Hong Kong visas is around four weeks, counted from the date all required documents are received by the Immigration Department. Applicants can check their status online or by contacting the Immigration Hotline at (+852) 2824 6111 or emailing [email protected].

After approval, the department sends a notification email with a payment link. Applicants can make payment via GovHK, Faster Payment System (FPS), Payment by Phone Service (PPS), or credit card. Once the payment is completed, the applicant can immediately download or print the e-Visa on A4 paper. This e-Visa must be presented at immigration upon arrival in Hong Kong along with a valid passport for QR code scanning.

Even though the applicant resides in South Korea, the same requirements apply. However, the Korean residence card and stable income may help establish credibility. Applications can also be made through the Chinese Consulate in Seoul if physical submission is preferred, but online submission is faster and more efficient.
