Hong Kong Visa Requirements for Nepali Citizens 2025 (Update)

As of 2025, Nepali citizens are required to obtain a visa or entry permit before traveling to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Unlike citizens of about 170 countries who enjoy visa-free access, Nepal is not listed among visa-exempt nations. This means all Nepali travelers—whether visiting for tourism, business, family, medical, or long transit purposes—must apply for a Visit Visa/Entry Permit through the official channels prior to departure.
The visa process is handled directly by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong. Applicants can submit their application online, by post, or through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, which facilitates Hong Kong visa applications for Nepali citizens. For online submissions, applicants must complete the Visit Visa/Entry Permit Form (ID1003A) and, if they have a local sponsor, the Sponsor Form (ID1003B). Once completed, both forms must be uploaded or mailed with supporting documents such as a valid passport copy (minimum 6 months validity), recent passport-size photo, bank statement or financial proof, flight itinerary, hotel booking confirmation, and a cover letter explaining the purpose and duration of visit.
If a traveler is invited by a Hong Kong resident, they must also include the sponsor’s Hong Kong ID card or passport copy, along with an invitation letter or proof of relationship. Travelers applying for business visits must attach company registration certificates or business invitation letters.
The visa fee remains HKD 230 (approximately NPR 4,000), which can be paid via bank draft or cashier’s order made payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.” Applications submitted via the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu can be paid in equivalent Nepali currency. The average processing time is 4 to 6 weeks, depending on case complexity, document completeness, and applicant background. Once the visa is approved, the applicant receives a Visa/Entry Permit Label or e-Visa PDF, which must be printed and pasted onto the passport before traveling.
It’s important to note that even after obtaining a visa, final entry is subject to approval by Hong Kong Immigration officers upon arrival. Visitors holding a tourist or short-stay visa are not allowed to work, study, or conduct businessduring their stay. Overstaying or violating visa conditions can result in penalties or future entry restrictions.
