Thailand Business Visa Validity, Renewal & Extension Guide

Thailand Business Visa Validity, Renewal & Extension Guide

For Nepali businesspersons, investors, or professionals who plan to travel to Thailand for business meetings, trade fairs, or corporate collaborations, understanding the validity, renewal, and extension rules of the Thailand Business Visa (Non-Immigrant “B”) is crucial. This visa type allows foreign nationals, including Nepali citizens, to stay in Thailand legally for business-related activities such as meetings, negotiations, or investment discussions. The Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu issues the visa initially for 90 days validity, meaning the applicant must enter Thailand within 90 days of issuance. Once the traveler enters Thailand, they are generally permitted to stay for up to 90 daysfrom the date of arrival.

If the visa holder wishes to stay longer for continued business purposes, they can apply for an extension of stay inside Thailand at the Immigration Bureau before the expiry date. The extension duration usually depends on the applicant’s documentation, company credibility, and reason for the visit. With complete business proof and valid justification, the stay can often be extended up to one year from the first entry date. Applicants must provide all supporting documents such as a valid passport, Form TM.7 (extension application form), passport-sized photograph, visa copy, business registration certificate, shareholder list, tax documents, financial statements, and company letter confirming the need for stay extension. In cases where a work permit is also involved, a copy of the valid Thai work permit should be presented along with the application.

For those who frequently travel in and out of Thailand for business, a multiple-entry Non-Immigrant “B” Visa is more suitable. This visa allows unlimited re-entry within its validity period — usually one year — but travelers must obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand, otherwise the current stay permission will automatically be canceled. Renewal of the visa itself (meaning getting a new visa) is generally done outside Thailand at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate, whereas an extension of stay is handled inside Thailand at the Immigration Bureau.

The extension process takes approximately 5 to 10 working days depending on document accuracy and immigration workload. The immigration officer reserves the right to approve or reject applications based on the authenticity of documents and compliance with immigration rules. Overstaying is strictly prohibited and may lead to fines or future visa bans. Therefore, applicants are advised to file for renewal or extension at least two weeks before the expiration of their current visa or stay.

It’s important to note that certain types of business visas such as B-A (Business Approved) and IB (Investment Visa)have different conditions, where extensions may be granted for longer periods if the applicant’s Thai company or investment project meets government criteria. Similarly, business professionals employed under BOI (Board of Investment) projects can apply for longer-term stays under Thailand’s investment-friendly policies.
