In the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2080/81, deposits in banks and financial institutions have increased by 11.5%, according to the latest data released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The total deposit amount has grown by NPR 3.608 trillion (or 3608.47 billion).
During the same period last fiscal year, deposits had grown by 7.2%, reaching NPR 4.090 trillion. On a year-on-year point-to-point basis, total deposits as of the end of Chaitra 2081 (mid-April 2025) had increased by 11.5%.
Looking at the composition of deposits as of Chaitra-end 2081:
Current deposits accounted for 5.7%
Savings deposits made up 35.8%
Fixed (term) deposits constituted 51.0%
In comparison, at the same time last year, the respective shares were:
Current: 5.2%
Savings: 29.1%
Fixed: 58.9%
This indicates a notable rise in the share of savings deposits and a slight decline in fixed deposits.
Additionally, institutional deposits accounted for 35.4% of total deposits by the end of Chaitra 2081, slightly lower than 35.7% in Chaitra 2080.
These figures suggest a consistent growth in overall deposits, with some shifts in deposit structure likely influenced by changing economic conditions and interest rate dynamics.
