Commercial Banks’ Annual Profit Surges to Rs 71.18 Billion, Nabil Bank Leads, NIC Asia Sees Sharp Decline

Commercial banks in Nepal have recorded a combined profit of over Rs 71 billion in the last fiscal year, according to the unaudited fourth-quarter financial statements. The total profit of the 20 commercial banks stood at Rs 71.18 billion, marking a sharp increase of 43.97% compared to Rs 49.54 billion in the previous fiscal year. Among them, Nabil Bank posted the highest profit, earning Rs 7.12 billion, up 15.01% from the previous year. Nepal Investment Bank followed with Rs 6.75 billion, and Global IME Bank secured the third spot with Rs 6.20 billion. NIC Asia Bank reported the lowest profit at just Rs 160 million. In terms of profit growth rate, Kumari Bank led the list with an extraordinary increase of 45,821% due to adjustments in its previous year’s financial statements. Prabhu Bank and Nepal Bank also showed notable profit growth after revising past figures. However, profits of four commercial banks—Standard Chartered Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Citizens Bank International, and NIC Asia Bank—declined, with NIC Asia facing the sharpest drop of 76.97%.
