Kathmandu — In a significant step toward appointing the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has convened a meeting of the Governor Recommendation Committee. This marks the first time Minister Paudel has called a meeting in his capacity as the committee’s chairperson.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting is scheduled for today at 4 PM. The committee includes former NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari and economist Dr. Poshraj Pandey as members.
The move follows recent high-level discussions in Baluwatar involving Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Finance Minister Paudel, and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. The meeting focused on finalizing the appointment of the new central bank governor.
The position has remained vacant since Chaitra 24 (early April), with Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana currently serving as the acting governor.
Sources indicate that Congress President Deuba has proposed the name of economist Dr. Bishwo Paudel for the role. The committee is now expected to deliberate on the proposed name and make a formal recommendation to the cabinet in the coming days.
