Hemant Basyal Appointed as Chairman of NEPSE

Hemant Basyal has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) for a term of three years, following a ministerial-level decision.

The position had remained vacant for a long time after Shobhakant Poudel, then Joint Secretary, was promoted to Secretary, leaving NEPSE without a chairman.

Experience and Background

Prior to this appointment, Basyal was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd., a position he resigned from just a few days ago, citing personal reasons. He had been serving as CEO of the company for nearly two years.

Basyal had also previously applied for the position of Chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), the capital market regulator, as well as for the CEO position at NEPSE itself.

With his appointment, stakeholders expect NEPSE to enter a new chapter of leadership and reform after a prolonged leadership vacuum.
