Nepal Rastra Bank Publishes Daily Open Market Exchange Rates for May 23, 2025

Kathmandu – The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has released today’s open market exchange rates for major international currencies, providing crucial guidance for individuals and businesses engaging in foreign currency transactions. These rates serve as the standard reference for foreign exchange dealings across commercial banks in Nepal, although slight variations may occur from bank to bank under the existing market-based system.
As per the NRB update, the U.S. Dollar (USD) stands at a buying rate of NPR 137.31 and a selling rate of NPR 137.91. The European Euro (EUR) is being traded at NPR 155.28 for buying and NPR 155.96 for selling. Meanwhile, the British Pound Sterling (GBP) remains relatively strong in the forex market with rates fixed at NPR 184.25 for buying and NPR 185.05 for selling.
Among other major currencies, the Swiss Franc (CHF) is valued at NPR 166.16 (buying) and NPR 166.89 (selling), while the Australian Dollar (AUD) is quoted at NPR 88.26 and NPR 88.64 respectively. The Canadian Dollar (CAD) maintains rates of NPR 99.05 for buying and NPR 99.48 for selling. The Singapore Dollar (SGD) also saw stable rates at NPR 106.35 and NPR 106.82.
Asian currencies showed mixed trends. The Japanese Yen (JPY), quoted per 10 units, is being bought at NPR 9.56 and sold at NPR 9.60. The Chinese Yuan (CNY) stood at NPR 19.06 (buying) and NPR 19.14 (selling), indicating minimal fluctuations. Meanwhile, the South Korean Won (KRW) per 100 units was posted at NPR 9.94 (buying) and NPR 9.98 (selling).
In the Middle Eastern currency segment, the Saudi Arabian Riyal (SAR) is quoted at NPR 36.61 for buying and NPR 36.77 for selling. The Qatari Riyal (QAR) follows closely at NPR 37.68 and NPR 37.84. The UAE Dirham (AED) is available for NPR 37.38 (buying) and NPR 37.55 (selling). The Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD), one of the highest valued currencies, is trading at a notable NPR 447.45 (buying) and NPR 449.41 (selling), while the Bahraini Dinar (BHD) and the Omani Rial (OMR) are listed at NPR 364.19 and NPR 356.67 respectively on the buying side, with selling rates at NPR 365.78 and NPR 358.23.
From the Southeast Asian region, the Thai Baht (THB) is trading at NPR 4.18 (buying) and NPR 4.20 (selling), and the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) is positioned at NPR 32.12 and NPR 32.26 respectively.
European currencies like the Swedish Kroner (SEK) and Danish Kroner (DKK) are priced at NPR 14.31 and NPR 20.82 for buying, with selling rates at NPR 14.37 and NPR 20.91. The Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) is being exchanged at NPR 17.55 and NPR 17.62.
These exchange rates are crucial for importers, exporters, remittance receivers, foreign travelers, and investors involved in foreign currency operations. As foreign exchange rates are influenced by multiple global macroeconomic factors, including interest rates, inflation, and geopolitical events, market participants are advised to monitor trends closely and consult with their banking institutions for transactional purposes.
