Nepal Rastra Bank to Collect Rs. 45 Billion Deposits Today

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is set to collect deposits worth Rs. 45 billion today (Wednesday) through the Deposit Collection Instrument. With total deposits exceeding Rs. 7.2 trillion in the financial system, the central bank is implementing this measure to absorb excess liquidity and manage interest rates.

Only licensed ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ class banks and financial institutions will be eligible to participate in the bidding. Institutions can bid a minimum of Rs. 1 billion (10 crore) within the specified limit. The allocation will be based on the lowest interest rates quoted, giving preference to those who bid lower until the total amount is met.

According to NRB, the principal and interest of this collection will be paid on Ashwin 5, 2082 (September 21, 2025). The entire process will be conducted through the online bidding system.

NRB has been repeatedly using this instrument as part of its structural open market operations to manage long-term liquidity. The current operation falls under the provision allowing deposit collection for a maximum of six months.
