Nepali Industries Allowed to Invest Abroad, Up to 25% of Total Exports Permitted

The Government of Nepal has announced that Nepali industries and exporters will now be allowed to invest abroad, with a provision to invest up to 25% of their total export earnings.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel stated,

“Nepali exporters will be permitted to establish processing plants abroad by exporting semi-processed or other goods from Nepal. Up to 25% of total export earnings can be invested for this purpose.”

He further clarified that foreign investment approvals will be granted by the Investment Board of Nepal. Additionally, businesses investing abroad will be required to repatriate at least 50% of the profits earned from such investments back to Nepal.

This move is expected to support the international expansion of Nepali industries, promote export-oriented industrialization, and enhance Nepal's presence in global value chains.
