Nepal's Road Network Reaches 36,132 km; Progress in Mid-Hill and Postal Highways

According to the Economic Survey for Fiscal Year 2081/82, the total road length in Nepal has reached 36,132 kilometers as of the end of Falgun 2081. The data was presented in Parliament today by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
As per the report, Nepal now has 19,163 km of blacktopped roads, 8,204 km of gravel roads, and 8,765 km of earthen roads. As of Ashar 2081, the total road length was recorded at 35,490 kilometers.
Mid-Hill Highway
Out of the 1,879 km total planned length of the Mid-Hill Highway, 1,452 km had been blacktopped by Ashar 2081, with an additional 11 km blacktopped by Falgun, bringing the total to 1,463 km. Of the 137 planned bridges along the highway, 107 have been completed as of Falgun.
Postal Highway
The Postal Highway has a total planned length of 1,857 km. By Ashar 2081, 1,259 km were blacktopped, with an additional 32 km completed by Falgun, raising the total to 1,291 km. Out of the 250 planned bridges, 142 have been completed.
Kaligandaki Corridor (North-South Highway)
Along the Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga section of the Kaligandaki Corridor (total length 447 km), 195 km of road has been blacktopped as of Falgun.
In the Maldhunga–Beni–Jomsom–Korala section, by Ashar 2081, 87 km had been gravelled, 60 km blacktopped, and 10 bridges completed. By Falgun, an additional 65 km of road had been blacktopped and 13 more bridges completed.
The survey highlights ongoing progress in Nepal's physical infrastructure development, particularly in strategic highway projects, while also indicating the need to expedite work in remaining sections.
