Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba are set to hold an important meeting this evening at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
According to the Prime Minister’s private secretariat, the meeting will take place just before the scheduled Cabinet meeting at 6 PM and will focus on final discussions regarding the appointment of the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
The meeting holds significant weight as tensions have been building between UML and Congress over the selection of the central bank's Governor. Sources indicate that both parties have reached an understanding to appoint Dr. Bishwo Poudel, who is considered close to the Nepali Congress, as the next Governor.
However, the recommendation committee—tasked with proposing three candidates for the Governor position—has not convened yet. According to legal provisions, the Cabinet can only make the appointment after the committee submits its list of recommended names.
This evening’s meeting between Oli and Deuba is expected to break the ongoing deadlock and finalize the leadership for Nepal’s central bank.
