With 88 Days Left for Election, EC Accelerates Preparations

Kathmandu — With only 88 days remaining until the House of Representatives election, the Election Commission has intensified its preparations. The date for the national election has been set for Falgun 21, and political parties have also begun accelerating their internal processes and candidate selection.
The Election Commission has started the formal program for the proportional representation (PR) electoral system from today. Political parties can submit their applications for participation in the PR system from 10 AM to 4 PM today. The list of political parties that filed applications will be published on Mangsir 24, according to the Commission.
As per the schedule, parties must submit their closed lists of PR candidates on Poush 13 and 14, between 10 AM and 4 PM. Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that the final closed list of PR candidates will be published on Magh 30. Out of the 275-member House of Representatives, 110 members will be elected through the proportional representation system.
For the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system, the election schedule has also been finalized. Candidates must file their nomination papers on Magh 6, and the preliminary list of candidates will be published the same day. The period to file complaints against candidacies has been fixed for Magh 7, while the preliminary list will be updated and published on Magh 8. Candidates are allowed to withdraw their names until Magh 9, after which the final list will be published, and election symbols will be assigned.
The Commission expects election-related activities to become more active and intensive in the coming weeks as the election date approaches.
