New Online China Visa Application System for Nepalis — What Has Changed?

On June 25, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal officially launched a new online visa application system, transforming the way Nepali citizens apply for Chinese visas. Previously, applicants were required to fill out physical forms, gather all original documents, and directly submit them at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Kathmandu. But under the new system, the process has become more structured, digitalized, and time-sensitive, combining both online and in-person stages to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Now, applicants must first complete an online preliminary submission through the official visa website https://www.visaforchina.cn/KTM3_EN/qianzhengyewu. During this phase, they must upload clear digital copies of all required documents — including the passport data page, recent photo, invitation letter (if applicable), travel itinerary, hotel booking, and flight ticket. This online submission enters a preliminary review stage handled by the Embassy. Only after the online documents are verified and deemed complete will the applicant receive an email containing a “Visa Application Certificate.” This certificate authorizes them to physically visit CVASC Kathmandu to formally submit their passport and original documents.
A key procedural change is that the Embassy now processes applications in the order of online submission, not based on the applicant’s travel date. This means that early submission is essential — especially during peak seasons such as Dashain, winter holidays, or student intake months. Applicants with urgent travel plans, however, can visit CVASC with a laptop, passport, and all required documents to request priority review. Once confirmed as error-free, their application can enter formal review on the same day.
Despite the modernization, the official visa processing time remains 2–4 working days, counted from the day the applicant submits their passport and documents in person at CVASC, not from the date of online submission. However, if any uploaded document is unclear, incomplete, or inconsistent (such as mismatched itinerary and ticket dates), the application will be rejected at the online review stage. The applicant will then need to correct and resubmit, adding several extra days to the timeline.
It is also important to note that the Chinese Embassy only accepts applications from individuals physically present in Nepal. Foreign nationals residing abroad can start their online submission early, but they must upload their valid Nepali visa and entry stamp after entering Nepal to continue to the final phase.
This new digitalized system aims to reduce paperwork, prevent queue congestion at CVASC, and enhance overall efficiency. Yet, it also demands higher attention to detail. Applicants are strongly advised to ensure document clarity, provide accurate information, check their emails frequently, and avoid using blurred or incomplete uploads. The Embassy’s automated system immediately flags unclear or mismatched information, which can easily delay the review.
