Nepal Attracts Massive FDI Surge — Which Sectors Gained the Most?

Nepal has recorded a robust surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the first four months of FY 2082/83, marking a remarkable NPR 36 billion commitment, more than double compared to the same period last year. According to the Department of Industry, a total of 382 projects were registered by the end of Kartik, underscoring renewed investor confidence.

In terms of project numbers, the ICT sector stole the spotlight with 205 registrations. However, investment volume remained modest at NPR 874.3 million. On the contrary, agriculture and forest-based industries dominated the capital leaderboard, securing a massive NPR 21.88 billion in approved FDI—claiming the largest share of total commitments.

The tourism sector maintained strong momentum, attracting NPR 8.94 billion across 118 projects. Similarly, the services sector received NPR 3.09 billion, manufacturing NPR 1.65 billion, infrastructure NPR 8.74 billion, energy NPR 180 million, and mining around NPR 4.5 million.

In Kartik alone, 71 new industries were registered, and the month logged NPR 1.54 billion in fresh FDI commitments, according to the department.
