Canada eVisa for Nepali Citizens: Apply for Tourist, Business, and More

If you're a Nepali citizen planning to visit Canada for tourism, business, or other short-term purposes, applying for a Canada eVisa is a simple and efficient way to get approval for your travel. The eVisa system has streamlined the process, making it easier for visitors to apply online and receive approval for entry. In this guide, we’ll provide all the details you need to know about applying for a Canada eVisa for different purposes, including tourist, business, and more.

1. Understanding the Canada eVisa

The Canada eVisa is a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) that allows individuals to visit Canada for a limited time. This visa type is primarily for short-term visits, such as:

  • Tourism: Exploring Canada's natural beauty, cities, or attending leisure events.

  • Business: Attending business meetings, conferences, or networking events.

  • Family or Friend Visit: Visiting family members or friends residing in Canada.

  • Other Purposes: For activities such as receiving medical treatment or attending a short-term training program.

2. Passport Requirements

Before applying for the Canada eVisa, ensure your passport meets the following basic requirements:

  • Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date from Canada. This ensures that your passport does not expire during your stay.

  • Blank Pages: Your passport must have at least two blank pages for the visa stamp and immigration endorsements.

Make sure your passport is valid and complies with these basic requirements before proceeding with the application.

3. Gather Required Documents

To apply for a Canada eVisa, you will need to gather several important documents to prove your eligibility. These include:

Covering Letter

A covering letter is an essential part of your visa application. This letter should include:

  • Purpose of Visit: Clearly state the purpose of your visit to Canada (tourism, business, family visit, etc.).

  • Travel Dates: Provide your intended travel dates (arrival and departure).

  • Accommodation Details: Mention where you will stay during your visit (hotel bookings, with a host, etc.).

  • Financial Responsibility: Indicate whether you are self-funding your trip or if someone else (like a sponsor) is bearing the costs.

The covering letter helps Canadian immigration authorities understand your purpose of visit and assures them that your trip is temporary.

Proof of Funds

You will need to demonstrate that you can financially support yourself during your stay in Canada. This can be shown with:

  • Bank Statements: Recent bank statements from the past 3-6 months showing sufficient funds to cover travel, accommodation, and daily expenses.

  • Proof of Income: If employed, submit your salary certificate, income tax return, or other proof of income.

  • Sponsorship Documents: If your trip is sponsored by someone in Canada, they must provide financial documents such as their bank statements and income tax returns.

Travel Itinerary and Accommodation Details

Provide a detailed travel itinerary and hotel reservations for your stay. This includes:

  • Flight Reservations: A confirmed round-trip flight booking showing your arrival and departure dates.

  • Accommodation Information: Confirmed hotel reservations or proof of stay with a host (if applicable).

These details help prove that your trip is planned and organized.

Invitation Letter (If Applicable)

If you are visiting family or friends in Canada, you may need to submit an invitation letter from your host. This letter should include:

  • Host’s Information: Name, address, and contact details of the person or organization inviting you.

  • Your Relationship with the Host: Explanation of your relationship with the person inviting you (family, friend, etc.).

  • Purpose and Duration of Visit: Clear details about why you are visiting and the dates of your stay.

4. Complete the Canada eVisa Application Form

To apply for a Canada eVisa, you must fill out the Visa Application Form (IMM 5257) online through the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) portal. The form will ask for personal details such as:

  • Your full name, date of birth, nationality, and passport details.

  • Information about your travel plans, including the purpose of your visit and the duration of your stay.

Ensure that the form is completed accurately to avoid delays in processing.

5. Pay the Application Fee

Once you’ve completed the application form, you will need to pay the visa application fee. The fee can be paid online through the IRCC portal using a credit card or debit card. The payment receipt will be sent to you, which you should keep for your records.

6. Biometrics (If Required)

For some applicants, biometric data (fingerprints and photographs) will be required as part of the application process. If biometrics are needed, you will receive instructions on how and where to submit them at a Visa Application Center (VAC).

7. Submit Your Application

After completing the application form, paying the fee, and gathering all necessary documents, you can submit your Canada eVisa application online through the IRCC portal. Make sure to upload all required documents, including your passport scan, financial proof, travel details, and invitation letters (if applicable).

If submitting in person, you can visit the Visa Application Center (VAC) to submit your documents.

8. Wait for Processing

The processing time for a Canada eVisa typically takes around 10 to 20 business days. However, the processing time may vary depending on the time of year or if additional information is required. It's always a good idea to apply well in advance of your planned travel dates.

You can check the status of your application through your IRCC account.

9. Visa Approval and Travel to Canada

Once your Canada eVisa is approved, you will receive it either electronically or as a visa sticker affixed to your passport, depending on your submission method.

When you travel to Canada, make sure to bring the following documents:

  • Your passport with the approved eVisa.

  • Travel itinerary and hotel reservations.

  • Proof of funds and any other documents that were requested as part of your application.

Upon arrival in Canada, immigration officials may ask to see your documents before granting you entry.
