China e-Visa vs Sticker Visa — Which Is Better for Nepali Travelers?

China e-Visa vs Sticker Visa — Which Is Better for Nepali Travelers?

In 2025, many Nepali travelers planning a trip to China are curious about the difference between a China e-Visa (Electronic Visa) and a Sticker Visa (the traditional visa physically stamped into a passport). While many countries have adopted fully digital e-Visa systems, China currently issues sticker visas for Nepali citizens through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) located at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu. Though China has introduced online pre-submission and appointment scheduling through visaforchina.cn, the final visa is still printed and affixed inside the passport—meaning the process is partly online but primarily traditional.

The China e-Visa, which is available to certain nationalities or for group travelers (mainly through tour operators), allows online application, digital approval, and sometimes airport entry clearance. However, individual Nepali citizens are not yet eligible for China’s fully digital e-Visa system. For them, the sticker visa remains the only valid and recognized form of entry authorization. The sticker visa requires applicants to first complete the online form, print it, and then submit physical documents and passport at the CVASC. Once approved, the Chinese Embassy stamps the visa on the passport.

Comparing both visa types:

  • China e-Visa (not yet available for individual Nepalis): Offers convenience, digital processing, and online tracking. No need to visit the embassy multiple times. However, it is generally restricted to short-term group tours or foreign travelers applying through approved Chinese tour agencies.

  • China Sticker Visa (currently in use for Nepal): Provides full embassy verification, ensures authenticity, and is accepted for all travel purposes—tourism, business, medical, and study. However, it requires physical submission, longer processing, and handling fees.

In practical terms, the Sticker Visa process in Nepal follows this route: Applicants fill out the visa form online, print it, attach their photo, and prepare supporting documents including passport, flight booking, hotel reservation, financial proof, and invitation letter if required. These are submitted at the Visa Application Service Center from Monday to Friday (9:00 AM–3:00 PM). After verification and embassy review, the visa is stamped into the passport and returned within 4–7 working days. Urgent and express services are available for extra fees.

While both visa formats serve the same purpose—entry permission into China—the Sticker Visa remains more reliable for Nepali travelers today. Once China expands its e-Visa system to include Nepal, it will bring more digital efficiency and save time, but until then, the sticker system ensures higher accuracy and embassy authentication, which is beneficial for first-time or frequent travelers alike.
