China Medical Visa Application Fees & Insurance Requirements

China Medical Visa Application Fees & Insurance Requirements

The China Medical Visa (R/M Category) is intended for Nepali citizens who seek medical treatment, surgery, or specialized healthcare services in China’s hospitals. Before applying, applicants must clearly understand the visa fees and insurance requirements, as both are mandatory for approval. The entire visa process is handled through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, under the supervision of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal.

The visa fees for China vary depending on the type of entry (single, double, or multiple) and the processing speed (regular or express). As of 2025, the average visa cost for Nepali applicants ranges between NPR 12,000 to NPR 20,000. A Single Entry Visa costs around NPR 12,000–14,000, a Double Entry Visa about NPR 15,000–17,000, and a Multiple Entry Visa (valid up to one year) may cost NPR 18,000–20,000. Those requiring express processing (2–3 days) need to pay an additional NPR 4,000–5,000. All payments must be made in Nepali rupees (cash only) at the CVASC counter. The fee is non-refundable, even if the application is delayed or rejected. The normal processing time for China Medical Visas is 4–7 working days, while express applications are completed within 2–3 days.

In addition to visa fees, medical and travel insurance are crucial requirements for a China Medical Visa. The Chinese Embassy and most hospitals in China require comprehensive international health insurance that covers emergency treatment, hospitalization, and repatriation. The minimum recommended insurance coverage is between USD 30,000 and USD 50,000, valid for the entire duration of stay in China. The insurance document should clearly specify the name of the insured (patient and attendant), coverage area (China or worldwide), policy amount, and benefits for emergency and hospitalization.

Applicants are also advised to submit proof of financial stability, such as a bank statement of the past 3–6 months, showing the capacity to pay for treatment and living expenses. Some Chinese hospitals might also ask for advance payment receipts or hospital deposit proof before issuing the invitation letter. These documents help ensure the applicant’s financial readiness for medical care in China.

To avoid rejection, all required documents — including the official hospital invitation letter, doctor’s recommendation, insurance policy, and financial statements — must be accurate, valid, and properly organized. Any missing or inconsistent document can delay or invalidate the visa process.
