China Medical Visa for Nepali Patients — Documents & Hospital Letter

China Medical Visa for Nepali Patients — Documents & Hospital Letter

The China Medical Visa (R or M-Category) is a special visa designed for Nepali citizens traveling to China for medical treatment, surgery, or health check-ups. It allows patients and their caretakers to visit China’s world-class hospitals for specialized care. With China emerging as a trusted destination for advanced treatments such as cardiac surgery, cancer therapy, organ transplants, and fertility services, this visa provides a legal and streamlined pathway for Nepali patients to receive medical services abroad.

The application process for the China Medical Visa is managed by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kathmandu, through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC), located at Rising Mall, Kamaladi. The process requires applicants to prepare specific documents, including an official invitation or hospital admission letter from a recognized hospital in China.

To apply, the patient must collect the following documents:

  • Valid Nepali passport with at least 6 months’ validity and two blank visa pages.

  • Recent passport-size photo (48×33 mm, white background).

  • Completed visa application form (available online at www.visaforchina.cn).

  • Medical invitation letter or hospital admission letter issued by an accredited Chinese hospital, clearly stating the patient’s name, diagnosis, type of treatment, and expected duration of stay.

  • Proof of financial ability, such as a bank statement (last 3–6 months), to ensure the patient can cover medical and travel expenses.

  • Travel itinerary, including flight bookings, hotel reservations, or hospital accommodation confirmation.

  • Referral or recommendation letter from a Nepali hospital or doctor, explaining the need for medical treatment abroad.

  • Copy of the hospital’s license or authorization letter in China (if required by the embassy).

  • For accompanying attendants or family members, relationship proof (marriage or birth certificate) must be provided.

Once all documents are ready, applicants must book an appointment online with CVASC Kathmandu, print and sign the application form, and submit it along with supporting documents. The standard visa processing time is 4–7 working days, while express service (within 2–3 days) is available at an additional cost. The visa fee ranges from NPR 12,000 to NPR 18,000, depending on the number of entries and processing time.

The hospital letter is the most crucial document for this visa. It must be issued on the hospital’s official letterhead, mentioning the hospital’s name, address, authorized doctor’s signature, contact number, diagnosis, and estimated duration of treatment. Without a valid hospital letter, the embassy will not approve a medical visa. Therefore, it is essential to choose a reputed hospital and ensure the letter meets the Chinese embassy’s requirements.
