Hong Kong Tourist Visa for Nepali Travelers – Online Application & Requirements

For Nepali citizens planning to visit Hong Kong in 2025 for tourism, business meetings, or short leisure trips, it’s important to note that Nepal is not part of Hong Kong’s visa-free entry list. Therefore, travelers holding a Nepali passport must apply for a Visit/Transit Visa (Entry Permit) before departure. Fortunately, the process can now be completed through the official Hong Kong Immigration Department’s online portal, eliminating the need for paper submissions or in-person visits.

The Hong Kong Tourist Visa allows visitors to enter for purposes such as sightseeing, visiting friends or family, attending events, or short-term non-remunerative business meetings. The visa is generally valid for a single entry and permits a stay of 14 to 30 days, depending on the approval.

Application Process:
Applicants must apply online via the official portal of the Hong Kong Immigration Department at www.immd.gov.hk. The applicant needs to create an account, fill out personal and travel details, upload required documents, and submit the form electronically. The system also allows uploading additional supporting files if requested later. After successful submission, the case is reviewed by immigration authorities, and applicants are notified by email. Upon approval, the entry permit is sent digitally, which can be printed and carried when traveling. The visa application fee is approximately HKD 230 (about NPR 3,900–4,200), payable online through the government’s secure portal. The approved visa generally allows a stay of up to 30 days, but it cannot be used for work, study, or permanent residence. Applicants must enter within 3 months from the date of issue.

The data reveals a striking liquidity imbalance within the banking system. Although deposits have continued to grow steadily, credit demand has not kept pace. As a result, more than NPR 838 billion (8.38 trillion rupees) has accumulated at Nepal Rastra Bank in various forms, including deposit collection instruments, standing deposit facilities, and central bank bonds. This reflects the inability—or unwillingness—of banks to deploy funds into productive sectors of the economy.
