Hong Kong Tourist Visa from Nepal — Documents & How to Apply Online

For Nepali citizens, traveling to Hong Kong requires a tourist or visit visa since Nepal is not included in Hong Kong’s visa-free entry list. The Hong Kong Immigration Department provides an official online platform for submitting visa applications for entry for visit / transit purposes. This online system is efficient and suitable for Nepali travelers planning a leisure, family, or short business visit.

To apply, travelers must first prepare essential documents before accessing the Hong Kong e-Visa portal. The most important is a valid passport (with at least six months’ validity beyond the intended stay). Applicants must also provide a recent passport-size photograph and complete the Application for Entry for Visit/Transit (Form ID 1003A), available on the Immigration Department’s website. If the applicant has a sponsor in Hong Kong—either an individual (friend/family) or an organization—the sponsor must also fill Form ID 1003B and attach proof of residence or business registration.

Alongside these forms, supporting documents must be uploaded to prove the applicant’s travel intent and financial stability. These include proof of financial resources (recent bank statements, salary slips, or fixed deposits), employment verification (a letter from the employer or business registration certificate for self-employed applicants), and travel evidence such as a flight itinerary, hotel booking, and detailed travel plan. For those visiting friends or relatives, an invitation letter and copy of the host’s Hong Kong ID card or visa are mandatory.

If the purpose is purely tourism, the applicant should provide a simple tour itinerary outlining the places they plan to visit (e.g., Victoria Harbour, Disneyland, Ngong Ping, etc.). For business visitors, an invitation or meeting confirmation letter from the Hong Kong company should be included. Each document must be in English or Chinese, and scanned clearly for online submission.

After all documents are prepared, applicants can visit the official Hong Kong Immigration e-Visa portal to upload the forms and supporting materials. The entire application can be completed digitally without physical submission. Applicants receive a confirmation email after submitting the online form. Processing time generally ranges between 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the case. During review, the department may request additional documents by email.

Once the application is approved, the applicant receives an Electronic Visa (e-Visa) via email. This document must be downloaded and printed before travel. Travelers must present the printed e-Visa, original passport, and other supporting papers upon arrival in Hong Kong. The standard visa validity allows a stay of up to 14 days per entry, though the Immigration Officer at the port of entry determines the final duration.

Nepali travelers are advised to apply at least one month before departure to avoid delays. The Hong Kong government also recommends that all supporting files be uploaded in PDF or JPEG format and that large files be compressed before submission.
