Hong Kong Visa Documents Checklist for Nepali Applicants

Hong Kong Visa Documents Checklist for Nepali Applicants

For Nepali citizens, traveling to Hong Kong requires a pre-approved visa or entry permit, as Nepal is not listed among the visa-free countries. Therefore, ensuring all necessary documents are prepared accurately is vital for a smooth application process. The Hong Kong Immigration Department (HKSAR) has outlined specific requirements for Nepali travelers applying for a Visit Visa or Transit Visa. Missing or incomplete documents are one of the most common causes of delays or rejections, so each document must be properly arranged and verified before submission.

To begin with, every applicant must fill out the Visa Application Form (ID1003A) completely and accurately, along with the Sponsor Form (ID1003B) if they have a local sponsor in Hong Kong. A valid Nepali passport with at least six months’ validity beyond the intended stay is mandatory. Applicants must also provide a recent passport-size photograph taken on a white background, ensuring a clear and full-face image. A well-written cover letter is equally important, explaining the purpose of the trip — such as tourism, business, or family visit — along with the duration and the funding source for the stay.

In addition, a complete travel itinerary must be included, showing round-trip flight details and the hotel booking or accommodation proof. For those staying with family or friends, a sponsor’s invitation letter and copy of their Hong Kong ID or passport must be attached. Financial documentation is a critical part of the application — applicants should provide bank statements for the past six months, salary slips, or income certificates to demonstrate their financial stability. Employed applicants must also submit an employment letter, while business owners should include a company registration certificate.

If the application involves sponsorship, the sponsor must submit a written invitation letter, along with proof of relationship, financial capability, and residential address in Hong Kong. In special cases, the Immigration Department may request additional documents, such as a police clearance certificate confirming the applicant has no criminal record.

For transit visa applicants, additional documents include an onward flight ticket to the next destination and a visa for that country (if required). If the transit involves an overnight stay, hotel booking confirmation must also be submitted.

The visa fee is HKD 230 (around NPR 4,000), payable via bank draft or cashier’s order made out to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.” The average processing time is 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the case and the completeness of the application. Applications can be submitted online via the HKSAR Immigration portal, by post to the Immigration Headquarters at 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, or through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.
