Hong Kong Visa Photo & Form Requirements for Nepali Applicants

Hong Kong Visa Photo & Form Requirements for Nepali Applicants

For Nepali citizens applying for a Hong Kong Visit Visa, Transit Visa, or Entry Permit, following the correct photo and form requirements is extremely important. The Hong Kong Immigration Department enforces specific standards for both the visa photo format and the application forms (ID 1003A and ID 1003B). Submitting an incomplete or incorrectly formatted photo or form can result in processing delays or rejection of your application.

The photo requirement for a Hong Kong visa is quite specific. Applicants must submit a recent color photograph, taken within the last six months, showing a full-face view with a plain white background. The photo size must be exactly 40 mm wide and 50 mm high, with the head (from chin to crown) measuring between 32 mm and 36 mm. The applicant’s facial features should be clear, with eyes open, neutral expression, and no glare or shadows. The photo should not include any hats, caps, or sunglasses — except for religious head coverings, as long as the entire face remains clearly visible.

Applicants wearing glasses should ensure that there is no reflection on the lenses and that both eyes are clearly visible. Heavy makeup, filters, or digitally altered photographs are strictly prohibited. The photograph must be printed on high-quality photo paper, and two identical photos are usually required — one of which must be affixed to the first page of the Visa Application Form (ID 1003A) in the designated box.

For those submitting the application online, the digital photo must be in JPEG or PNG format, at least 1200 × 1600 pixels resolution, and not exceed 5 MB in size. Poorly cropped or blurry photos may be rejected during the verification process.

Regarding forms, all Nepali applicants must complete Form ID 1003A — Application for Entry for Visit / Transit in Hong Kong. This form must be filled out in English block letters using black or blue ink, ensuring that all fields are complete and accurate. If you have a local sponsor in Hong Kong, they are required to fill out Form ID 1003B — Sponsor’s Form, which includes their name, address, Hong Kong ID number, and relationship with the applicant.

Applicants traveling with family members (spouse or children listed on the same passport) must attach a Supplementary Information Sheet providing details for each family member. The Immigration Department provides these forms free of cost, and they can be downloaded directly from the Hong Kong Immigration Department website.

Before submission, double-check that:

  • Your photo meets exact specifications (size, background, quality).

  • Your form is correctly filled, signed, and dated.

  • You have attached all necessary supplementary pages if traveling with others.

False or misleading information in your form can result in visa refusal and a permanent record with the Immigration Department, so honesty is crucial.
