How to Get Admission and Apply for China Student Visa from Nepal

Studying in China has become one of the most popular choices for Nepali students due to its high-quality education, affordable fees, and world-class universities. To study in China, students from Nepal must first secure admission from a recognized Chinese university and then apply for a China Student Visa (X Visa) through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Kathmandu.

The process begins with researching Chinese universities and selecting programs that match your academic background and career goals. Students can apply directly through university websites or trusted portals such as China Admissions or CUCAS. Applicants should check whether the program is taught in English or Chinese and verify if a scholarship (CSC or university-level) is available. Most universities require academic transcripts, certificates, recommendation letters, a study plan, a valid passport copy, and proof of language proficiency — such as HSK for Chinese-taught courses or IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught courses.

Once your application is accepted, the university will issue two important documents: the Admission Notice and the JW201 or JW202 Form (Visa Application for Study in China). These are mandatory for visa processing. Students joining long-term courses (more than 180 days) must apply for an X1 Visa, while those enrolling in short-term programs (less than 180 days) should apply for an X2 Visa.

To apply for a student visa, you must complete the COVA Online Visa Form, print and sign it, and book an appointment through the AVAS system before visiting the visa center. The required documents include a valid passport (6+ months), the Admission Notice, JW form, a recent passport-size photograph, medical examination report, bank statement or scholarship proof, and, if applicable, a police clearance certificate.

The visa application must be submitted in person at the China Visa Application Service Center, located in Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu. Biometric fingerprints may be collected during submission. The visa processing time usually takes 4 to 10 working days, depending on the workload and completeness of documents. Once approved, students receive their X1/X2 visa stamped on their passport.

After arriving in China, X1 visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days through the local Public Security Bureau. This replaces the visa and serves as a long-term stay permit for the study duration. The university’s international office usually assists students with residence registration and renewals.
