Malaysia e-Visa Renewal & Extension Rules – What Nepali Must Know

For Nepali travelers visiting Malaysia through the official e-Visa system, understanding the rules of renewal and extension is very important. The Malaysia Immigration Department has made it clear that a Malaysia e-Visa cannot be extended or renewed once issued, except under very rare and exceptional circumstances such as medical emergencies or unavoidable travel disruptions. Normally, an e-Visa is issued for a fixed validity period — usually 6 months from the date of issuance — and allows a maximum stay of 30 days per entry for most visitors, including Nepali citizens.

The Single Entry Visa (SEV) is valid for one-time travel only, while the Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) allows several entries during the validity period, but even in that case, each stay is limited to 30 days. Once your permitted stay ends, you must exit Malaysia and, if needed, apply for a new e-Visa from outside the country. The Malaysian immigration system does not allow in-country extensions for tourists or social visitors under the e-Visa category.

If a traveler overstays the allowed period without official permission, penalties may include daily fines, deportation, and future entry bans. Overstaying even by a few days can result in strict immigration action. Therefore, Nepali citizens are advised to plan their trips carefully and ensure that their travel dates fall within the 30-day permitted stay.

However, in certain exceptional cases — such as medical treatment, flight cancellations, or natural disasters — travelers can apply for a Special Pass at the local Malaysian Immigration Office before their visa expires. This pass, if approved, provides a few extra days to stay legally. The process requires official documents, such as hospital letters or airline statements, and is decided case-by-case by Malaysian authorities.

For Nepali students, workers, or long-term residents, other visa categories like Student Pass, Employment Pass, or Long-Term Social Visit Pass have separate extension and renewal rules. These are applied for directly through the Malaysian Immigration Department or their respective sponsoring institutions.

Nepali applicants must also remember that the e-Visa is non-renewable once it has expired. If you plan to revisit Malaysia, you will need to reapply through the official e-Visa portal, upload fresh documents, and pay the applicable visa and processing fees again.
