Online Application for Hong Kong Visa from Nepal — Complete Process

Online Application for Hong Kong Visa from Nepal — Complete Process

For Nepali passport holders, a visa or entry permit is mandatory to visit or transit through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The Hong Kong Immigration Department allows Nepali citizens to apply online, eliminating the need for physical visits or postal submissions in many cases. The online system is convenient, transparent, and designed to speed up visa processing for genuine travelers.

To begin the process, applicants must first confirm their eligibility since Nepal is not included among the 170 visa-exempt countries. Then, they should visit the official Hong Kong Immigration Department’s online visa application portal available at www.gov.hk. This platform accepts applications for Visit Visa/Entry Permit or Transit Visa electronically.

Before applying, travelers must prepare all required documents in digital format (JPEG, PDF, or PNG). These include:

  • Valid passport copy showing personal details and expiry date (at least 6 months validity).

  • Recent passport-size photograph (clear and in color).

  • Proof of financial means, such as a bank statement, salary slip, or savings account details.

  • Travel itinerary including flight bookings and hotel reservations.

  • Cover letter stating the purpose and duration of the visit (tourism, business, or family).

  • If applicable, invitation letter or sponsor documents, such as Hong Kong ID/passport copy, proof of relationship, or business registration.

Applicants must complete the online visa application form (Form ID1003A) accurately, ensuring all details match the passport. If a local sponsor is involved, they should also complete Form ID1003B. Once submitted, the applicant receives a confirmation notice via email. In some cases, the Immigration Department may request original or additional documents, which must then be sent by post or through a local sponsor in Hong Kong.

Upon approval, the applicant receives an e-Visa notification slip (PDF format) via email. This serves as the official visa/entry permit and must be printed in A4 size and presented during travel. Travelers must paste the Visa/Entry Permit Label in their passport or carry the printed e-Visa when passing through immigration in Hong Kong.

The processing time generally takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the applicant’s background, purpose of visit, and completeness of documents. The visa fee is approximately HKD 230 (about NPR 4,000), payable online or through the designated payment methods.
