For Nepali citizens planning to apply for a Chinese visa in 2025, understanding both the processing duration and applicable fees is essential before visiting the Chinese Visa Application Centre (CVASC) in Kathmandu. The process remains systematic, and timing varies depending on the visa type, completeness of documents, and the urgency of the applicant’s travel.

1. Processing Time

The standard processing period for most visa types—such as Tourist (L), Business (M), Student (X), or Family Visit (Q/S)—typically ranges from 2 to 4 working days after submission of all required documents at the Visa Centre.

  • Regular Service: Normally processed within 4 working days.

  • Express Service: Completed within 3 working days for an additional fee.

  • Rush Service: Delivered in 2 working days if submitted before noon, suitable for urgent travel needs.

Applicants are advised to apply at least one month prior to their intended departure to allow for verification and to avoid last-minute issues. Delays may occur if documents are incomplete, fingerprints are not properly recorded, or if the Embassy requires additional checks. Therefore, ensuring accuracy in documentation and submission is crucial for timely approval.

2. Visa Fees and Service Charges

As per the latest 2025 Embassy Update, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal has waived the visa fee for most categories of applicants, including tourist and business travelers. However, applicants must still pay the service fee to the Visa Application Centre, which handles document collection, biometric registration, and coordination with the Embassy.

  • Service Fee (Regular): Approximately NPR 2,700

  • Express or Rush Service: Fees may range between NPR 4,000 to NPR 6,000 depending on urgency and processing time.

The total amount payable at the Visa Centre equals the service fee only since the Embassy’s visa charge is now free for Nepali citizens under the current policy. It’s advisable to confirm the latest rate at the time of application, as service fees are subject to periodic review by the Visa Centre.

3. Important Notes

  • All applicants aged between 14 and 70 years must visit the Visa Centre in person for fingerprint collection.

  • Processing begins only after biometric data and all supporting documents are verified.

  • Applications submitted after 12:00 PM will be counted from the next working day.

  • Visa fees and services are non-refundable once the process has started.
