Proof of Relationship for Thailand Family Visit Visa — Required Papers

Proof of Relationship for Thailand Family Visit Visa — Required Papers

When applying for a Thailand Family Visit Visa (Non-Immigrant “O”) from Nepal, one of the most crucial parts of the application is providing proof of relationship between the applicant and the family member residing in Thailand. The Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu and the Thailand eVisa system both require solid documentation that establishes a genuine family relationship. This verification ensures that the visa is being used for legitimate family visits, not for work or immigration misuse.

The type of relationship proof required depends on the nature of the relationship between the applicant and the Thai resident or sponsor. For a spouse visa, the applicant must submit a marriage certificate issued by the Government of Nepal and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Kathmandu. If the marriage certificate is in Nepali, it must be translated into English by an authorized translation service and notarized. For additional credibility, it’s recommended to attach a wedding photo, joint bank account proof, or evidence of shared address or property in Nepal or Thailand. These documents show that the relationship is ongoing and legitimate.

For parent-child relationships, the required document is a birth certificate that lists both parents’ names. This must also be translated into English (if issued in Nepali) and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the child is applying to visit parents in Thailand, copies of the parents’ Thai ID cards, passports, or work permits must also be attached. Similarly, for parents visiting their children, the child’s birth certificate, passport, and Thai visa (work or study permit) should be included to confirm dependency.

If the applicant is visiting siblings, grandparents, or in-laws, proof of relationship becomes slightly more complex. Applicants should submit a family relationship certificate (Paribarik Praman Patra) from their local ward office or municipality, along with citizenship certificates showing the family connection. In such cases, the Thai resident’s ID card or residence permit and a signed invitation letter clearly mentioning the relationship and purpose of visit must be presented.

All relationship documents must be original or certified true copies. The Royal Thai Embassy does not accept photocopies without proper attestation. If any document is issued outside Nepal, it must be legalized by the relevant authority in that country and authenticated by the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

In addition to relationship proofs, applicants are required to attach supporting documents like a sponsor’s passport and visa, proof of accommodation, financial evidence, and a cover letter explaining the relationship and purpose of the visit. Clear, consistent, and authentic documentation helps avoid visa delays or rejection.
