Step-by-Step Medical Visa Application Guide for Nepali Patients

Applying for a China Medical Visa (R/M Category) can be straightforward if done with proper planning and guidance. This visa is specifically for Nepali citizens who need medical treatment, surgery, or specialized healthcare services in China. China has become one of Asia’s most advanced destinations for healthcare, with modern hospitals and affordable treatment facilities, making it a popular choice for Nepali patients.

The first step in applying for a medical visa is to obtain an official invitation or admission letter from a recognized Chinese hospital. The hospital must confirm that the applicant requires treatment and is accepted for medical care. The invitation letter should include the patient’s full name, passport number, diagnosis, treatment details, estimated duration of stay, hospital address, contact number, and official stamp. Hospitals such as West China Hospital (Sichuan University), Tongji Hospital (Wuhan), Oasis International Hospital (Beijing), and Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Beijing) are among those recognized for international patient services.

Once you receive the invitation letter, the next step is to prepare your supporting documents. These include a valid Nepali passport (minimum six months validity with two blank pages), a recent passport-size photo (48×33 mm), a medical recommendation letter from a registered doctor or hospital in Nepal, a bank statement of the last 3–6 months showing sufficient funds, and proof of accommodation in China (hotel booking or hospital stay confirmation). You must also have international medical and travel insurance covering at least USD 30,000–50,000 and optionally include your flight booking for verification.

After gathering all documents, applicants must fill out the online visa application form at www.visaforchina.cn, selecting “Kathmandu” as the application center and “R/M – Medical Visa” as the type. The form must be filled carefully, printed, signed, and attached with the applicant’s photo. Then, schedule an appointment at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) located at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

On the appointment date, applicants must personally visit CVASC with all documents and pay the visa fees in Nepali Rupees (cash only). The cost depends on the visa type — Single Entry (NPR 12,000–14,000), Double Entry (NPR 15,000–17,000), Multiple Entry (NPR 18,000–20,000), and an additional NPR 4,000–5,000 for express service (2–3 days processing). The standard processing time is 4–7 working days. After approval, collect your passport and verify the visa details such as validity, entry type, and stay duration.

Upon arrival in China, you must register at the hospital within 24 hours and start your treatment. If your treatment lasts longer than your visa validity, you can apply for an extension or renewal at the Public Security Bureau (PSB) in the same city where you are being treated. The PSB may grant an additional 30–90 days or even a Temporary Residence Permit depending on the medical situation.
