Step-by-Step Process for China Spouse Visa for Nepali Applicants

The China Spouse Visa—classified under Q1/Q2 or S1/S2 categories—is specifically designed for Nepali citizens married to Chinese nationals or foreign residents legally staying in China. This visa allows couples to live together, reunite, or visit each other for either short-term or long-term durations. The process is handled through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, under the supervision of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal. Applying carefully with accurate documentation ensures a smooth and successful visa approval.
To begin, applicants must first determine the correct visa type. The Q1 Visa is for long-term residence (more than 180 days) with a spouse, while the Q2 Visa is for short-term family visits (less than 180 days). Similarly, the S1/S2 Visas are issued if the spouse is a foreign national legally residing in China. Choosing the right category helps in avoiding rejection or future complications.
The required documents for a China Spouse Visa include a valid Nepali passport (minimum 6 months validity), a recent passport-size photograph (48×33mm, white background), a marriage certificate issued and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Nepal, and a proof of relationship such as marriage photos, joint property or family registration documents. Additionally, an invitation letter from the spouse in China, a copy of the spouse’s Chinese ID card (if Chinese citizen), or passport and residence permit (if foreign national) must be provided. Applicants also need a bank statement (last 3–6 months), flight bookings, and completed visa application form(available online at www.visaforchina.cn).
Once the form is completed, applicants must print, sign, and book an appointment at the CVASC Kathmanduoffice. On the appointment date, all original and photocopied documents should be submitted, and the visa fee—ranging from NPR 12,000 to NPR 18,000 depending on the type—should be paid in cash. The standard processing time is 4–7 working days, while express service (within 2–3 days) requires an extra charge. After visa approval, applicants should verify all details such as visa validity, number of entries, and stay duration.
For those granted Q1 or S1 visas, it’s mandatory to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit at the Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 30 days of arrival in China. Applicants must visit their local PSB office with documents like a passport, marriage certificate, health check report, spouse’s ID, and temporary residence registration form. The residence permit allows a legal stay for 6 months to 2 years and can be renewed as necessary.
