Thailand 60-Day Tourist Visa Explained — Fees, Documents & Validity

For Nepali citizens planning to explore Thailand in 2025, the 60-Day Tourist Visa (Type TR) is the most common and convenient option. This visa is ideal for travelers who wish to stay longer than the regular short-term visit. The Thai Government, through its embassies and VFS centers, has made the process more transparent and partly digital. The visa allows you to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days per visit and can be extended once for an additional 30 days, making a total stay of 90 days.

The visa is generally valid for three months from the date of issuance for single-entry travelers, meaning you must enter Thailand within that period. Once you enter, the countdown begins for your 60-day stay. For frequent travelers, the multiple-entry version of this visa is available, valid for six months, allowing several visits, each for up to 60 days.

Applicants must submit a valid passport (with at least six months’ validity), a filled visa application form, two or three recent passport-size photographs, hotel booking confirmation, a round-trip flight ticket, and a six-month bank statement showing at least THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family (around NPR 80,000–160,000). This financial proof assures Thai authorities that you can support your expenses during your stay. Other documents, such as proof of residence, employment letter, or travel insurance, may be required depending on your case.

The visa processing fee in Nepal usually ranges around NPR 5,000, payable at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu or VFS Global Nepal. Processing typically takes three to five working days, although it may vary depending on seasonal demand. Applicants are strongly advised to apply at least two to three weeks before their intended departure to avoid delays.

Before you travel, it’s now mandatory to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 72 hours before arrival, as the old TM6 paper form has been replaced since May 1, 2025. Upon entry, present your passport, visa, TDAC confirmation, and return ticket at Thai Immigration. You can later apply for a 30-day extension at any local immigration office in Thailand if you wish to stay longer. Overstaying beyond your permitted days can lead to fines or entry bans, so travelers must strictly adhere to the visa conditions.
