Transportation and Storage Salaries Up 2.95%: Logistics Sector Expands

The Salary and Wage Index (SWI) shows that Nepal’s transportation and storage sector registered a 2.95% increase in wages in FY 2024/25, with the index rising from 100.60 in July 2024 to 103.57 in July 2025. This growth, above the national average of 2.63%, underscores the rising importance of logistics and transportation in supporting Nepal’s trade, urban supply chains, and connectivity.
The wage rise reflects higher demand for skilled drivers, transport workers, and warehouse staff, as e-commerce, wholesale trade, and cross-border commerce continue to expand. Major infrastructure projects, such as highway upgrades and dry port expansions, have also boosted labor requirements in this sector.
For workers, the nearly 3% wage increase provides greater income stability and opportunities in one of Nepal’s fastest-growing service industries. For employers, however, it signals rising operational costs, particularly with fuel price fluctuations and competition among logistics companies squeezing profit margins.
